Let’s talk Engagement!

How important is engagement on social media? The answer is VERY!

You might think social media is just one of those things that you, as a business owner, need to have. But do you know why? Do you know what you want to get out of using it?

Unfortunately it’s not just a case of writing a few words, adding a photo and hitting ‘publish’… Nope, there’s a lot more to it than that!

We all know about the algorithm changes that came about earlier this year making our organic content fall to the very bottom of our fans’ newsfeeds. What you may not know is the secret to getting your content seen by more people.

Yes, we always recommend some form of paid advertising on social. This is going to greatly increase the chances of your organic content being seen. However, there’s also something else you can do and it doesn’t involve spending a single cent!

Want to know more? Of course you do!

It’s called post engagement, and it’s kind of a big deal!

Basically, the more your content is Liked, Reacted to, Commented on, Shared or responded to via Direct Message, the more people are going to see it. You might thinking… DUH! But there’s actually more to it than meets the eye.

You see, Facebook and Instagram’s algorithms place high favorability on engagement. So if your posts are getting lots of interactions, the algorithm will decide to show your posts to more of your followers, in turn increasing your engagement levels even further. Win, win!

So the next question is ‘How do I get engagement on my posts?’

Well, you’ve gotta be strategic with what you’re posting. You can’t just slap something up, cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Here’s what you need to get a handle on:

  1. Who are your followers?
  2. What do they interested in?
  3. How can you relate their interests to your business?
  4. How can you add value for them?

As you can see, it’s really all about knowing your followers and how to please them. Keep this in mind when you’re putting together your content calendar and you should start to see a lift in engagement. 😊
